Municipal Market of Santa Brigida

The Weekend Market of Santa Brigida, ‘El Mercado Agrícola y Artesanal’ in the northeastern inland part of the island, celebrated its 35rd anniversary in summer 2021. Varieties of cheese, country bread, jams and marmalades, natural produced honey and a variety of confectionery.

“This beautiful old town was where the British aristocrats and merchants of the 18th and 19th century first came to visit on health holidays, making it one of the first tourism destination on Gran Canaria. It is still home for many aristocracy families and their gorgeous country homes.”

At the Moment it is a very small market with about a dozens stall operating. Just next to the market, there is a Wine museum “La Casa del Vino de Gran Canaria” which is worth visiting.

‘El mercadillo de Maspalomas’ – Maspalomas Market

From October 2022, the market is moved to Playa del Ingés on Parque Europeo. 

On Saturday and Wednesdays, all kinds of textile articles flood the car park Municipal Market, located on Avenida Alejandro del Castillo. It is one of the markets most attractive for tourists; El Mercadillo de Maspalomas, ‘Maspalomas market’. The market is from 08:00 to 14:00.

At the Maspalomas Market, hundreds of vendors offer visitors clothing, footwear, handbags, wallets, costume jewellery, leather and handmade jewellery, among many other products. There is also an area, to enjoy a refreshment, set up for authorised vehicles to prepare and sell food and drink.

With less that 10 minute walk from the market, take a stroll around the cobbled streets of the Agüimes old town with beautiful and interesting statues and sculptures scattered around and with history dating back to the conquest of the island. It is well worth a visit’

X Feria Institucional de Productos de la Tierra – Vega de San Mateo

The 10th Institutional Fair of the Canary Islands Products of the Land throughout the weekend 31 March – 2 April 2023, in the beautiful historic town centre, Plaza de la Solidaridad (the new square), and the marketplace of Vega de San Mateo. From Friday to Sunday authentic products and crafts made in the Canary islands, agriculture, tourism and much more.

The fair brings together various producers of, among others: cheeses, black pig products, honey, wine, mojo, sweet potato, baked goods, jams, organic vegetables, pastries, oils, derivatives of honey, dairy products derived from sheep’s milk, olives, gofio, nougat, sausages, water, cider and apple candy, beer and artisanal ice cream. nam nam… all things Canarian.

‘Mercado De Guía’, the marketplace of Santa Maria de Guía takes place from Friday to Sunday between 08:00-16:00.
The new municipal market is still enjoying its grand opening festivities ( December 22 ) and offers raffles and entertainment until the end of January 2022.

On Fridays, January 14, 21 and 28, for every 10 euros of purchase, visitors to the Mercado de Guía will be able to win a gift voucher worth 60 euros. The raffle will take place on Sundays 16, 23 and 30 of this month. 3 checks will be raffled each week, worth 60 euros each, to be exchanged at the Market stalls.

Likewise, the Market will host musical performances, children’s workshops, wine and cheese tastings, etc. on Saturdays and Sundays. Activities all aimed at a family audience that make this visit an even more complete and attractive experience, as well as making it possible to buy the best local products.


 

Wednesday 21 December 2021 was a historic day for #SantaMaríaDeGuía when the #MercadoDeGuía was inaugurated at 11:00. This new marketplaceis a great support for the primary sector and an additional attraction for visitors to the North of Gran Canaria.

Mercado de Guía, the new municipal market place has for its opening the first 30 stalls for the direct sale of fruits and vegetables, cheese, meat, fish, gourmet products, prepared meals, flowers and jams among others. A cafeteria and restaurant will also open on the first floor.

 

Starting from 9 January 2022, the marketplace will be open from Friday to Sunday 08:00-16:00 

 

 

The building, located in an old irrigation pond with ethnographic value. The new marketplace is distributed over 4 floors, a basement, used for cold rooms, and a semi-basement for 70 parking spaces and a loading and unloading area. On the first floor are the stalls for direct sales, cafeteria and restaurant. The second will be dedicated to the gastronomy market.

The Market building has a large metal roof that covers the building complex and supports the solar panels, both thermal and photovoltaic, resulting in a total constructed area of almost 8,000m².

 

 

Agricultural market Plaza de Playa de Arinaga

Farmers’ market in Plaza de Playa de Arinaga on Fridays 08:00-14:00, just in front of the church church Nuestra Señora del Pino – Arinaga. The municipality of Agüimes new Agricultural market, starting from Friday, July 2 for direct sales. It will initially consist of a dozen zero kilometre stalls, in which the farmers themselves will offer their products directly to visitors, without intermediaries: locally produced fruits, vegetables and vegetables that can be purchased at a fair price.

These stands will be accompanied by other complementary products like flowers, crafts, gift items or textiles. The new market in Playa de Arinaga will be open every Friday, between 08:00 and 14:00. It will be the second popular market in the municipality of Agüimes, along with the one that already takes place every Thursday in the Plaza de las Ramblas, in Agüimes casco.

The initiative, promoted by the Consumption area of the Agüimes City Council, aims to boost commerce in Playa de Arinaga. It will be a meeting place between farmers and consumers, beneficial for both. While the former will have the opportunity to output their production, the latter will have easy access to quality local products.

Vega de San Mateo Weekend Market

The weekend market of Vega de San Mateo in the mountains is a popular place to visit by locals and visitors with its over 90 stalls.

Mercado Agrícola y Artesanal is open from Friday to Sunday where you can find a big market building as well as outside stalls and occasional music and dancing during summer. Local farmers sell a wide selection of seasonal vegetables, and fruit but also cheese, wine and much more. The outside area offers stalls selling an interesting array of different products from handcrafts, clothes, and bags among others.

p.s. On Sundays go early, cause the traffic gets wild around midday, and long queues forms going up to Vega de San Mateo on GC-15.

The market and surrounding area is undergoing major renovations and improvements. The opening of underground parking on la Plaza del Mercado – Los Gofiones ( just after the small bus station ) has improved the traffic and parking on a busy day like a market day.

The popular Friday Market restarted in Playa de Mogán from October 1. This has got to be the most scenic places on Gran Canaria to have a market, by the beach and a harbour, beautifully kept houses and shops, bars and restaurants galore. A really lovely way for visitors staying in Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria, Anfi or Arguineguín to get there is by ferry. The market is 09:00-14:00.

This very busy tourist market has a little bit of everything on sale from bags, clothes, souvenirs, sunglasses, art and everything between and more.

VI Enduro Arguineguín Mogan Mall

VI Enduro Arguineguín Mogan Mall on Saturday 1 April 2023.

The Enduro Arguineguín Mogán Mall motorcycling event returns in what will be its sixth edition on April 1st under the organization of Costabiker’s Motoclub, with the support of the Mogán City Council, the Insular Sports Institute and the Canarian Motorcycle Federation. It has the main sponsorship of the Mogán Mall shopping centre and is part of the Canary Islands Enduro Championship.

This edition comes with novelties since the test will be concentrated on a single day and will start at 9:00 am from the Mogán Mall shopping centre. However, the competition will be held in the town of Arguineguín. Specifically, in the land located in the upper part of the Barranco de Pino Seco, at the height of the area of ‘El Timonel’.
The first round will begin at 11:30 and the second at 13:15, both lasting 40 minutes on a closed circuit. In addition, a Maxi Trail exhibition is incorporated, which will take place at 12:30. At the end, all the participants will go back to Mogán Mall, where they will cross the finish line and, later, the trophies will be delivered at 16:00.

Gran Canaria Agricultural Markets; Vecindario & Arucas

The main agricultural markets on Gran Canaria take place in Arucas and Vecindario and offer an opportunity to purchase fresh produce directly from the primary sector.

MARKET IN ARUCAS 

This market takes place every fortnight in the facilities of the Cabildo’s Agricultural Farm, located next to the detour to Arucas from GC-2, on the north coast of Gran Canaria. The market comprises some 65 exhibitors (farmers and ranchers) who market their products directly to the consumer with the aim of lowering costs.

The market is open from 09:00-13:30

MARKET IN VECINDARIO 

The Agricultural Market in Vecindario takes place every fortnight in the city centre on Plaza de los Algodoneros and offers an opportunity to purchase fresh products directly from the farmers at an adjusted price. Vegetables, fruits, honey, cheeses, oil, bread and sweets are just some of the produce that can be found, constituted to support the primary sector of the region.

The market was moved from its old location La Karpa, during the pandemic (July 2021) as it was used as a vaccination centre.
