Landscape, traditions and produce of the land are an essential part of the “Ruta Almendro en Flor” festivities in the municipality of Valsequillo de Gran Canaria, celebrated on the last weekend of January.

The local Town Council has agreed to suspend its festivities of the “Ruta del Almendrero en Flor 2021”, in order to avoid the concentration of people, due to the high number of visitors who come to the municipality during the weekend of festivities.

The beginning of the almond trees blossoming completely changes the landscape of Valsequillo creating a wonderful natural spectacle. The municipality has celebrated the beautiful picture of pink and white flowers in the since 1971, so this year would have been the 50th anniversary.

The Almond Blossom Route in Valsequillo de Gran Canaria is one of the most traditional celebrations in the Canary Islands, throughout the beautiful rural municipality located in the east mountains of Gran Canaria, about 20 minutes up from Telde, or a half hour bus ride.

A well attended event in this tiny traditional village with plenty to do and see including a market and traditional artisans, folkloric performances and Canarian music, tasting of typical Canarian dishes and various indigenous games.
