DESCRIPTION:\nAgüimes celebrates the San Sebastián festivities with music, tradition, and historical roots between 12-26 January 2024.\nAmong the scheduled events, there are folklore meetings, a livestock fair, the Caracol Gastronomic Days and concerts by Vocal Siete and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra stand out.\nThe municipality of Agüimes will host the festivities in honour of San Sebastián, a celebration that has its origins in 1487, when Gran Canaria was incorporated into the Crown of Castile, a royal decree that made official the creation of the former Episcopal Lordship of Agüimes. Since then, the date has been marked on the calendar as the festival that commemorates the origin of the first town in the Southeast of Gran Canaria, while the saint went on to become the full patron saint of this municipality. 537 years later, Agüimes once again remembers its foundation with a program of events, which includes recreational and cultural activities for all tastes, including folkloric meetings and workshops, musical events, a livestock fair and the 13th edition of the Gastronomic Days of the Snail. \nHighlights:\nFriday,12 January:\nat 21:00 the presentation of the ‘Makana Connection’ project by the Makana Canarias percussion group at the Agüimes Municipal Theater. The group, which has been integrating various world cultures through music since 2006, presents its new show in which it performs wind and string arrangements of recognized songs and songs of its own authorship.\nSaturday 13 January:\nat 19:30  the Teatro Auditorio Agüimes will host the premiere of the new show by the musical group Vocal Siete, ‘Vs radio’. Tickets can be purchased on the website tickentradas.com ( https://www.tickentradas.com/ ) for a cost of 10 euros.\nat 21:00 The festive activity will move to the Plaza del Rosario, where a taifa dance will take place, with the participation of the folkloric groups Lomitos de Correa de Valsequillo, Amor Canario de Santa Lucía and La Villa of Agüimes.\nOn Monday 15 January:\nat 17:00 Canarian tradition and historical roots will have a great role in this year’s San Sebastián festivities with an exhibition of peasant clothing at the Orlando Hernández House Museum starting at 19:30 the same space will host a traditional dance workshop.\n13th Caracol Gastronomic Days \nGastronomy lovers will also have a place in the patron saint festivities with the 13th edition of the Caracol Gastronomic Days, which will take place from Thursday the 18th to Sunday the 21st. As usual, the days will feature the participation of several establishments of the historic centre, which will offer in their facilities the best recipes based on this mollusk at popular prices. The participating establishments will be the El Populacho gastrobar, the La Esquina bar, the San Antón bar, the Ca Migue cafeteria bar, the Atis Tirma restaurant, the El Guanchinche restaurant and the Magec Café & Burger Bar establishment.\nAs a preamble to the conference, the Plaza del Rosario will host on Wednesday the 17th, starting at 12:00, a cooking show aimed at culinary students, so that they can learn how to make traditional recipes for this food, as well as a pairing of snails with Señorío de Agüimes white wine, the presentation of a new snail recipe book by chef Santiago Gorrín and a popular snail tasting for those who attend the event. \nFriday 19 January:\nat 20:00 evening will be starred by good music, first with the meeting of boleros and South American songs, ‘Historias de un amor’, which will take place at the Agüimes Municipal Theater.\nat 22:30 a festival evening in Plaza del Rosario led by Grupo Mambo and Línea DJ.\nSaturday, 20 January: Feast Day of San Sebastián\nfrom 10:00 Livestock fair on the esplanade of the Agüimes Auditorium Theater.\nat 11:30 Eucharist, followed by a religious procession with the images of San Sebastián and Ntra. Sra. del Rosario\nat 23:00 The great celebration in Plaza del Rosario with a DJ Event Music festival.\nSunday 21 January:\nat 11:00 The morning will be dedicated to the little ones in the house with a children’s play park at the plaza.\nat 20:00 the Municipal Theater of Agüimes will host the 13th Parranda del Lejío Solidarity Gala, with performances by the organizing group, Parranda Pal Ingenio and the singer Juan Pablo Vega. Admission to the gala will be free of charge, although attendees will be asked to provide non-perishable food and hygiene or cleaning products, which will be allocated to the people most in need through Cáritas Agüimes.\nThe program of events will continue on Thursday the 25th, starting at 20:00, with a concert by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, which will take place within the framework of the Canary Islands Music Festival, which commemorates its 40th edition.
