DESCRIPTION:\nPatron Saint festivities of the municipality of Firgas in honour of San Roque (St. Roque) take place between 2-23 August 2024 (main festive days 2-17 August).\n“This is the oldest festival in the municipality and have deep historical and cultural roots, originating when locals sought San Roque’s protection from a devastating plague.”\nIn Firgas, the devotion of his image is not exactly dated, but, even during the life of the convent, whose patron was S. Juan de Ortega, the neighbours already considered San Roque their true patron, therefore it is believed that devotion could date back to the initial decades of the 16th century, with the arrival of the first plagues on Gran Canaria.\n\nHighlights:\nFriday 2 August:\n21:00 Pregón, proclamation by Ángel Víctor Torres at Plaza de San Roque\nSaturday 3 August:\n11:00 Children’s party with bouncy castles and foam party at municipal parking lot\n20:00 XL Traditional “Traída del Palo” from Las Canales\nThe Bringing of the Pole is one of the central events of the Festivities.
