DESCRIPTION:\nTelde is celebrating Patron Saint festivities in honour of John the Baptist, San Juan Bautista between 13-24 June 2025 (main events).\nThe church of San Juan Bautista (John the Baptist) de Telde is the true spiritual centre of Telde.\n \n“The history of the area of San Juan is rooted in pre-Hispanic times. It is known that the area was one capital of the two great “kingdoms” of the old Tamarán (Gran Canaria) and as such the city has lots of examples of the old Canarias, with around a hundred archaeological points of interest.”\nThe program of events includes an intense cultural, sports, recreational, and religious agenda that will take place between June 13 and 29. The program will open with a parade announcing the festivities and the opening speech, followed by musical performances such as the La Polvajera parranda. During the first weekend, the beaches of Melenara and Playa del Hombre will host CrossFit, surfing, and bodyboarding competitions, while the Plaza de San Juan will host children’s activities, concerts, and a blood donation marathon, among other events.\nThe following week will be marked by tributes, sports exhibitions, institutional concerts, and a historical and literary tour of the founding area with the Municipal Music Band. On Friday the 20th, a fashion show and the musical performance “Son de la Loma” will be held as part of the Atacayte Festival, in addition to a car event with the Telde City Rally, which will continue on Saturday with its traditional route.\nAmong other events, the highly anticipated Romería-Ofrenda (Pilgrimage-Offering) in honor of Saint John the Baptist will take place on Saturday the 21st, a deeply rooted event in which residents and folklore groups will pay tribute to the city’s patron saint. That same evening, the square will host a large festival with parrandas and the Leyenda Joven group.\nThe events of Sunday 22 and Monday 23 June will continue with children’s activities, exhibitions, craft shows, and musical entertainment, culminating in the magical celebration of San Juan Night, which will include the lighting of the bonfire in Siete Puentes, the 18th annual Mechones de Melenara festival, street parties, and a silent chromatic spectacle in the sky above Plaza de San Juan at midnight.\nSaint John’s Day\nThe main day of the festivities, Tuesday, June 24, will begin with the traditional flowered “Reveille” (dancing) through the neighborhood streets, followed by traditional games and sports, including exhibitions of shepherd’s leap and the club game, a livestock show, and the photography contest awards ceremony, among other events. The day will culminate with the Eucharist and the solemn procession of the Saint through the historic center.\nThe festivities will conclude on the last weekend with the celebration of the 1st Telde City Sports Day in San Juan Urban Park and a school chess tournament on Saturday the 28th.
