LPA TEMUDAS 2-18 July 2020 

The 24th edition of Temudas, the International theatre, music and dance festival held in the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

During the festival there are a wide range of extraordinary free outdoor performances and concerts.

The Festival will concentrate its program to the spaces of the squares of Santa Ana and the Pilar Nuevo and thanks to the collaboration of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Guiniguada Theater Hall will be added this year as well as a novelty. All three are located in the historic center of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Weekend Market of Santa Brigida, in the northeastern inland part of the island, celebrated its 33rd anniversary  summer 2019. This upscale village market in the centre of the town, where the local people and visitors gets local products. Varieties of cheese, country bread, jams and marmalades, natural produced honey and a variety of confectionery.

This beautiful old town was where the British aristocrats and merchants of the 18th and 19th century first came to visit on health holidays, making it one of the first tourism destination on Gran Canaria. It is still home for many aristocracy families and their gorgeous country homes.

Opening hours : Saturdays 8:00-20:00 and Sundays 8:00-14:00

*** The Agricultural and Craft Market will move temporarily, starting on January 31, 2020 under a large tent in the paved area of the parking lot attached to the school.

"Virgen del Carmen"- festivities in Arguineguin

The main summer festivities for the south western municipality of Mogán. “Fiestas del Carmen” in honour of ‘La Virgen del Carmen’, the patron saint of sailors and fishermen. The festivities are first held in Arguineguin 10-19 July ( Dates yet to be confirmed by the town hall ). After then in Puerto de Mogán.

The program includes a wide variety of traditional, cultural, religious and festive events for everyone to join, including :

The main Romeria, the pilgrimage offering, to Virgen del Carmen. Departure from Avenida del Muelle to Plaza Pérez Galdós, by the main church. Traditional Taifa dancing on the square.

The Bajada de la Rama, “the lowering of the branch”. (A quirky, youthful street party, based on a pre-christian throwback to the original natives of these islands, praying for their gods to bring them rain after the hot summer months) Expect dancing in the streets and water EVERYWHERE!

Maritime procession. There is a religious eucharist at the church followed by the pilgrimage promenade to the harbour for the epic Maritime procession to start.  From there boats will depart escorting the main boat carrying the statue of the Virgen to the bay of El Pajar where the offering will be made. The tour will go to Playa de Mogán to meet its counterpart. The procession then heads back to Arguineguin.

Thursday 16 July 2020 is the main feast day for the Virgen del Carmen and so also a local bank holiday from Arguineguín, to Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria, to Puerto de Mogán and up to the original old village of Pueblo de Mogán.

Agricultural, Livestock and Fishery Market – Arucas and Vecindario

“Mercado Agrícola, Ganadero y Pesquero Arucas y Vecindario”

The Agricultural and Livestock Market of Arucas began to develop in June 2008, at the initiative of the Coag (Coordinator of Organizations of Farmers and Cattle Ranchers) and the Federation of Cattlemen of Gran Canaria (Fedegran), later moving to the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, an institution in charge of  of the current market.

This market takes place every fortnight in the facilities of the Cabildo Agricultural Farm, located next to the detour to Arucas from GC-2, on the north coast of Gran Canaria. Click here to the map location.  The market comprises some 65 exhibitors (farmers and ranchers) who market their products directly to the consumer, with the aim of lowering the costs. From 09:00-13:00
