The 39th International Music Festival of The Canary Islands
Jan 12 – Feb 11 all-day

Festival de Música de Canarias

The 37th International Music Festival of The Canary Islands

JANUARY – FEBRUARY 2023 || Full concert program HERE

About sixty concerts, eight great orchestras, outstanding batons, soloists, chamber musicians and scores from all eras will play classical music in the Canary Islands from January 12 to February 11, 2023.

The Canary Islands International Music Festival (FIMC), like every winter for almost four decades, will reach all the islands in a 39th edition marked, above all, by the debut at the Festival of various groups and musicians. In addition, the ‘En Paralelo’ Festival is back, with a diverse and complementary programme. It will also be the first time for many of the works to be performed: 45% of the repertoire has not been performed before at the FIMC. And with a finishing touch turned into a desire for peace: the presence in the Canary Islands of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra, with a very special program in a very difficult year for its musicians due to the terrible war affecting their country. Along with the Ukrainian, the great formations that will visit the islands are the BBC Philharmonic, the Bamberg Symphony, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, in addition, of course, to the two residents: Tenerife Symphony and Gran Canaria Philharmonic. The return of batons such as those of Ton Koopman and Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the debut at the FIMC of world figures such as the pianist Daniil Trifonov constitute other milestones of the 39th edition. Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Scottish Chamber Orchestra, in addition, of course, to the two residents: Tenerife Symphony and Gran Canaria Philharmonic. The return of batons such as those of Ton Koopman and Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the debut at the FIMC of world figures such as the pianist Daniil Trifonov constitute other milestones of the 39th edition.

The BBC Philharmonic, with its more than a hundred concerts a year and based in Manchester, is pioneering new ways of engaging the public, of taking music from sheet music to hearts. And that’s what they come to do at #39FIMC. The British orchestra will be in the Canary Islands! They inaugurate the edition on January 12 and 13 at Auditorio Alfredo Kraus and Auditorio de Tenerife. They don’t come alone! Juanjo Mena, a director who is already well-known and highly appreciated by the Festival audience, will be in charge of these concerts that will have two great moments: the interpretation of the Britten concerto, with Clara-Jumi Kang (violin) and the great culmination: the Bolero de Ravel with the Cía ballet. Anthony Marquez. In other words, you can’t miss it for anything in the world! Tickets from December 12 #savethedate, but you can also subscribe and enjoy this and three other concerts from €75.
