Santa Lucia unveils the poster of its Carnival 2018 on television, designer Ernesto Santana
Santa Lucia has unveiled on Tuesday the poster announcing the Carnival 2018, which carries as an allegory ‘Television: do not change the channel, we are Carnival’, which has as winner of the contest to the designer Ernesto Santana. And that will take place from 8 to 18 March.
The poster was presented by the Mayor of Santa Lucía Dunia González and the Councilor of Culture Julio Ojeda, who congratulated the winner, also present at the event held in the Assembly Hall of the Municipal Offices.
The mayor affirmed that the poster “represents what we are in Santa Lucia with those raised hands of different sizes and colors and that means party and participation”. Dunia González, who thanked the people who voted this year’s allegory through the website of the City Council and those who sent their poster to the contest their collaboration, made an invitation to begin to make their costume inspired by this allegory.
The councilor encouraged all citizens to prepare “to enjoy with intensity these holidays that every year gather in our municipality to many people wanting to have fun and that bring a lot of color and joy.”
The winner of the Carnival poster contest Ernesto Santana Vega (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1986) studied marine science and during the race he illustrated books for his teachers until he discovered that design was his vocation. He has worked as a photographer, in the field of advertising and made digital illustrations, ‘time-lapse’ videos, and designing posters for different events that now carry his brand.
The image of the Carnival of Santa Lucia 2018 shows many hands raised enjoying the party and one of them has a television remote control. In the background is the old black and white adjustment chart and the colored bars that appeared on television to check the state of the production systems become the arms that enjoy the party and that allude to that participative spirit that characterizes the carnival in Santa Lucia.
During the act of presentation of the Santa Lucia 2018 Carnival poster, the dates of some of its most relevant events were also contributed. The murgas are presented at the Víctor Jara Theater from January 12. The Sardinian Carnival is celebrated from February 16 to 24 with the allegory ‘The delicious world of cooking, and the high zone celebrates the festivities on 3 and 4 March.
The proclamation this year will be in charge of the theater company composed of young people from the Killing Art municipality. The Carnival of the elderly will be held in the Ateneo Hall on March 10. On Sunday, March 11, a carnival gala is celebrated at Víctor Jara, which includes a body makeup exhibition, and the same stage. The next day, Monday 12, the Carnival is celebrated.
The Carnival through the neighborhoods is divided between March 12 and 16, the Drag Gala sets its date on the 16th, the great cavalcade is on Saturday, March 17 and as a novelty, the Burial of the Sardine is recovered on Sunday, the 18th. March, which will be presiding the horse and Day Carnival.
