Concerts by The Municipal Symphonic Band with Germán López to celebrate the Canary Islands Day

The Municipal Symphonic Band of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, supported by the timple of Germán López, will offer three free concerts under the title “Celebrating the Canary Islands” on May 8, 15, and 22, to commemorate the upcoming “Canary Islands Day.” These three trips to the sonorous heart of the Archipelago will take place, always at 20:00, in different emblematic locations of the city: Plaza del Pilar Nuevo in Vegueta, Plaza Don Benito in Schamann, and Plaza del Pilar in Guanarteme.

For these three musical events, the Band will feature virtuoso timple player Germán López, in a show that fuses the archipelago’s musical tradition with a contemporary, symphonic perspective, under the direction of maestro Juan Roda.

“Celebrando Canarias” offers an emotional journey through the most emblematic melodies of Canarian folklore, reinterpreted with arrangements for symphonic band, alongside contemporary compositions that showcase the richness and versatility of the timple, that great little instrument that embodies the sonic soul of the archipelago.

The performance seeks to build a bridge between past and present, between the warmth of roots and the power of innovation, in a vibrant musical conversation between the timple soloist and the symphonic ensemble.

With free admission until capacity is reached, these three concerts invite you to celebrate Canarian identity through music, in urban settings steeped in history and life, in the neighborhoods of Vegueta, Schamann, and Guanarteme.
