Cultural Route ‘Patiando con Dulces y Quesos de Guía 2023
Guide celebrates on Sunday, November 5, a new edition of the ‘Patiando con Dulces y Quesos de Guía 2023’ Route, an attractive recreational route that will allow attendees to discover the beauty and uniqueness of the patios of some of the main stately homes in the old part of the town while enjoying a wide program of cultural and artistic activities.
The Patio de Los Álamo, that of Regantes, that of the Casa de Doña Eusebia, of the House of Culture, of the Néstor Álamo Museum, the Patio of Doña Dulce, and of Sansofé are the spaces chosen this year to open to the public as privileged settings for a large number of musical performances, theater, dramatized readings, and painting and photography exhibitions, all seasoned with the tasting of sweets and cheeses from Guia. In the surroundings of the Plaza Grande there will be the best gastronomy from the Kiosk and some of the best-known food trucks on Gran Canaria; ’Everywhere foodtruck’ y ‘Caminando foodtruck’.
The program of events scheduled for Sunday will begin at 10:00, in the Plaza Grande, with a live drawing by the artist Bianca. Also at that time, from the same place, a guided tour of the historic centre and some of the most emblematic patios of the city will begin, led by a guide Omayra Rodríguez.
Again this year you can enjoy from the front of the Church, starting at 10:30, music, dance, and joy of the Papagüevos de Guía on their journey to the patios of the stately homes. Hand in hand with La Patio Band they will head towards the Patio de Regantes, on Calle Pérez Galdós, where you can enjoy the musical performances in the Saxo and Clarinet classrooms of the Ciudad de Guía Municipal Artistic Schools and the Piano classroom in the patio of the House of Culture. Aimed especially at children, at 11:00, a musical story-telling will be held in the Plazoleta de San José by José Luis Estévez, known as Güicho.
Next, around 11:30, it will be the turn of the patio of the Casa de Doña Eusebia, where the play ‘Canónigo Gordillo, un grande de Gran Canaria’ directed by José Antonio González will be performed.
Also around that time the String Orchestra of the Artistic Schools will perform in the Plaza Grande and at 12:00 the Flute classrooms in the Néstor Álamo Museum and the Wind-Metal classroom in the House of Culture will perform. The Theater classroom will also perform here, around 12:30, with the staging of the play ‘El término medio’.
At that same time, the music will move to the Plaza Grande with the performance of the Classical Guitar, Timple Soloist, Singing and Choir classrooms, and as a culmination, starting at 13:30, the concert of the Cuban group ‘Son por tres’ next to the ‘Sabor a Salsa’ dance school.
The balconies will also come to life in this edition of ‘Patiando’ with the performance of the Gran Canaria soprano Maite Robaina. Likewise, poetry and literature will be present in the patios with dramatised readings by some writers from the Canary Islands who wanted to join this cultural day together with the members of the writing workshop taught by the writer and journalist Santiago Gil. This day there will also be an urban exhibition that under the title ‘Hanging on History’ will collect the main milestones in the personal history of Canon Gordillo on the occasion of the 250 years of his birth through the installation of canvases that will be placed throughout on Calle Marqués del Muni.
This year’s program also offers the opportunity to visit different and interesting exhibitions such as the Luján Pérez Painting Classroom, in the Patio de Los Álamo, Regantes, Sansofé and Doña Dulce, throughout the day.
Likewise, at the House of Culture you can visit, from 11:00 to 14:00, the photographic exhibition ‘Guguy, lights of the West’ by Alejandro Melián, within the Forest November initiative, in which the author invites through your images to take a walk through this magical and little-known place in Gran Canaria.
This year, small old libraries will be installed again in each of the patios, equipped with books from different periods that visitors can take for free.
