Dinghy Race – ARC, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
The popular Dinghy Race returns this year to the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Marina on Sunday, November 16th. This event is promoted by the World Cruising Club, organiser of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC), in collaboration with the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council through Turismo LPA. The dinghy race is part of the program of events for the 40th edition of the iconic Atlantic Rally, and participation is open to sailors and the local public.
The race will take place starting at 12:00 noon on the water at Marina Las Palmas (near the gas station) and promises a festive day full of fun, colour, and nautical spirit. Participants are encouraged to dress up and decorate their boats. All of this is scheduled to take place after the parade of flags from the 38 participating countries and the opening ceremony of the regatta, which will depart from the capital on Sunday, November 23rd, bound for the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia.
Registration is open until Saturday, November 15th, via the online form at https://form.jotform.com/252743683598069, by email to [email protected], or in person at the ARC offices on the dock, pontoon L.
The Dinghy Race is back after several years. Previously, it was organized by the beloved Pedro Pérez Abrante (Pedro Texaco), an adopted son of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, who worked at the gas station in the small boat basin for over three decades and was a true role model for sailors.
Inflatable and rigid dinghies, as well as paddleboards up to 4 meters in length, are eligible to participate in the Dinghy Race. Each team must provide the full names of all participants and a team name on the registration form. Participants under 16 years of age must be accompanied by at least one adult.
The departure of the main ARC fleet will take place on Sunday, 23 November, at 12:30, bound for the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia, while the ARC+ set sail on November 9 for Grenada, after its stop in Mindelo (Cape Verde).
