Fiestas de Fátima 2024 – Vega de San Mateo
Fiestas de Fátima in Vega de San Mateo is celebrated between 12-19 May 2024.
One of the festivities with great religious traditions in Vega de San Mateo is that of Our Lady of Fátima. The Image arrived in the Vega de San Mateo in 1950, and since its arrival, this commemoration has been celebrated every year with a week of religious events, taking the Virgin out in procession.
Every day a different neighborhood or street is decorated, the windows are decorated with white and light blue flags, the doors and sidewalks are filled with plants and flowers from around the world, hydrangeas, ferns, etc… There are religious processions every day.
The last day of these religious holidays is Sunday, called the Mass for the Sick. The sick come from all over the island to ask Our Lady for healing.
Highlights:
Every day between 12-18 May
at 19:20 Prayer of the Holy Rosary.
at 20:00 Solemn Eucharist, followed by the traditional procession along the traditional handmade carpets made from salt and flowers
Sunday 19 May:
at 11:00 Pentecostés, solemn eucharist for the sick at Plaza de la Inglesia (Plaza Ntra. Sra. del Pino)
*pentecost -celebrating the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples of Jesus after his Ascension, held on the seventh Sunday after Easter.
