Fiestas De San Pío X – La Isleta, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
The neighbourhood of La Isleta in the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are celebrating the traditional festivities in Honour of Saint Pius X between 14-22 August 2024.
Program highlights:
The San Pío X Festivities will begin on Wednesday 14 August from 19:00 in the parish with the mass. After this, there will be a recognition of the neighbours Carmen Hernández and Fernando Cabrera, as well as a posthumous recognition of Inita García.
at 20:30 Pregón on Calle Aceró, the proclamation will take place by the councillor of the Isleta-Puerto-Guanarteme District, Héctor Alemán.
at 21:05 Performance by the Andalusian singer José Ortiz, a contestant on the Canal Sur program ‘Se llama copla’
at 22:00 The day will conclude with the retreta de papahuevos accompanied by the banda Guiniguada, and will tour various streets in the neighbourhood.
On Thursday 15 August, a mass is planned at 10:00, followed by a harp concert by Armando Santana.
at 12:00 on Calle Aceró, a children’s party with a bouncy castle, balloon twisting, face painting, and a ceramics and gastronomy workshop in collaboration with the Instituto Canario de Estudios Antropológicos (ICEAN).
On Friday 16 August, from 21:00, the play ‘El ambulatorio’ will be performed on Calle Aceró
at 22:00 a lively and festive street party will take place with ‘Music Band’.
On Saturday 17 August, an 8-a-side football tournament will be held, sponsored by the Municipal Institute for the Promotion of Physical Activity and Sport of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, from 10:30 to 12:30 in the ‘La Piscina’ Kindergarten Sports Centre.
Meanwhile, on Calle Aceró, from 10:00, the Tayri charity market will be held to benefit Cáritas and, from 12:00, the parade of Papahuevos with the Guiniguada band will begin. In the afternoon, at 20:30, the taifa dance will be held with the performance of Los Guayres and Vecinos Unidos. Before that, at 19:00, in the parish, the Canarian mass and the food offering will take place.
On Sunday 18 August, at 10:00, there will be a mass, and from 12:00 there will be a children’s party with a piñata and traditional games.
On Monday, August 19, from 21:00 on Calle Aceró, ‘Boleros con feeling en Blanco y Negro’ will begin with a performance by Carmen Bautista and Irene ‘La Cubana’, under the musical direction of Fofi Lusson.
On Tuesday, August 20, from 21:00 Calle Aceró will host the grand artistic gala, directed by Simón Alejandro Urbano, with performances by Alexis Santos, Ninfa, Drag Ácrux and Drag La Tacones, followed by the party with DJ Nichel B at 23:00.
On August 21, the day of Saint Pius X, the neighbours will make handmade salt carpets at 10:00 on Aceró Street, and at 12:00 the bells will ring accompanied by fireworks. In the afternoon, from 19:00, the solemn Eucharist will take place in the parish with the musical accompaniment of Ibaradem.
At 20:00 religious procession of the saint through the streets of the neighborhood will begin.
The festivities of Saint Pius X will conclude on Thursday, August 22 with a mass for the deceased of the parish starting at 19:00.
