Fiestas Patronales de Santa Lucía y los Labradores 2025

The municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana is celebrating their Patron Saint festivities, Fiestas Patronales de Santa Lucía y los Labradores, between 6-21 December 2025.

Saturday, 13 December, is a local bank holiday in the municipality

Sunday 21 December 2025 – ROMERÍA DE LOS LABRADORES (Fiesta Pilgrimage of The Workers)

In the ancient southeastern Tirajana valley, the Sunday following the feast day of Santa Lucia, the Pilgrimage of Los Labradores is celebrated, in honour of the Virgen del Rosario.

On this day, thousands of people dress up in traditional clothes for the pilgrimage with carts pulled by tractors or cattle, and roam the streets of the town, offering the numerous visitors typical local produce of the land; wine, rum, cheese, pork rinds, gofio and fried sardines, in addition to the traditional mejunje, a traditional local drink made with rum, honey and aromatic herbs.

The last major romería (fiesta) of the year on Gran Canaria, and it’s always very well-attended

The celebration of the “Lucía Sueca” dates back to 1963, when a Swedish merchant marine captain, called Musber, found all Santa Lucia roads closed while touring Gran Canaria. When asked about the reasons for the traffic jam, a police officer explained that every December 13, the Procession of Saint Lucia was celebrated, a tradition they shared with the Swedish town of Luleå, where Musber was originally from.
