
Gáldar | Fiestas Principales San Sebastián 2025
Gáldar celebrates the traditional festivities in honour of San Sebastián, like every year in January, with days full of faith, tradition, and folklore that will begin on Thursday 16th, with the ringing of the bells and raising of the flag.
Celebrated for more than five centuries in the municipality, the festivities take place this year from 16-31 January.

Thursday 16 January:
19:30 in the Plaza de San Sebastián, the Raising of the Flag of San Sebastiánat 19:45 in the Hermitage of San Sebastián, the XXXIII Tertulia Pedro de Argüello will take place, an academic event that serves as a Proclamation.
This time, the theme will be ‘Barrio Hospital. San Sebastián and El Argüello: archaeology of the superimposed city’, coordinated by Juan Sebastián López García, official chronicler of the city. Carlos Ruiz Moreno, Consuelo Marrero, Valentín Barroso and Salvador Vicario will take part. It is organised by the Celso Martín de Guzmán Classroom of Humanities and Social Studies, the Roberto Moreno Díaz School of the ULPGC in Gáldar, and the Department of Culture and Festivals, the Matriz parish of Santiago and the parish of San Sebastián will collaborate.
Friday 17 January
The Day of Saint Anthony the Abbot, the enthronement of the Painting of Saint Anthony the Abbot will take place in his chapel at the Puerta del Sol in the Archpriestal Temple of Santiago. This work, which dates back to the last third of the 17th century, was recently restored.
at 18:00 the Funfair will be inaugurated at the La Quinta Cultural Centre, which will remain open until Sunday, February 2.
Saturday 18 January
20:00 the sixth edition of the Agáldar Folk Festival, organised by the Agáldar Canary Islands Dance School Folklore and Cultural Group, which will also feature the participation of the ‘LASAOI’ Chácaras and Tambores Association from La Gomera and the ‘Yo Silbo’ Association from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Monday 20 January: Feast Day
18:00 the procession of the images of Saint Sebastian, Sam Amaro and Saint Buenaventura will take place from the Hermitage of Saint Sebastian, arriving at the Temple Sanctuary of Saint James the Apostle after travelling along the streets of Franciscanos, San Amaro, Bajada de Las Guayarminas, Capitán Quesada and Plaza de Santiago.
Sunday 26 January:
19:00 Eucharist in the Temple Sanctuary of Santiago Apóstol, followed by the main festival of San Sebastian with the return procession of San Sebastian, San Amaro and San Buenaventura. Upon arrival at the Plaza de Los Heredamientos the ‘Plegaria del Agua’ (water prayer) will take place. Then, the great fireworks display and ‘Vivas al Santo’ in the Plaza de San Sebastian.
Friday 31 January:
20:30 Eucharist and the procession of the venerated image of the Holy Martyr through the streets of Capitan Carrascosa Franciscanos, San Amaro, real de San Sebastian, and Plaza de San Sebastian.
The festivities will end with the performance by the folkloric group Harimaguadas at the Hermitage of San Sebastián

Its historic hermitage and the entire neighborhood are decorated to host the main events of this celebration with great tradition in the municipality. The “usual” program will begin with the general ringing of bells and the raising of the flag. On the main day of the Festival of San Sebastian, on January 20, a procession begins in the Plaza de San Sebastian and ends in the Plaza de Santiago. Another of the acts is the return procession of San Sebastián and the Water Prayer.”
