Noche de Finaos vs. Halloween 2025 – Gran Canaria
The 31st of October has long been celebrated here in the Canary Islands. A most traditional celebration where families gather and tell each other stories of family members long departed, ancestors of note, parents, grandparents, and the occasional spooky ghost story. Of course, US influences have seeped in over recent years, but the more traditional Canarians have always seen this as a great opportunity to reconnect with the past and munch on sweet chestnuts, freshly roasted over open fires, as each community gathers together to celebrate mid-autumn and remember their dead.
Whether it is the Christian Fiesta de Todos los Santos, the more pagan Halloween from which it comes, All Saints Eve, All Hallows’ Eve, the Canarian Noche de Finaos, which lead to the Mexican Day of the Dead or simply the Fiesta de la Castaña (the chestnut) there are plenty of seasonal celebrations going on this Friday night all around Gran Canaria, and on into the weekend. The cemeteries will have extended opening hours for the families to visit. These days, it’s a mix of traditions and commercial activities here, and if it encourages a night out, many bars and restaurants will do their best to entertain and frighten, so dressing up is ALWAYS encouraged!
Saturday, 1st of November 2025 is also a National bank holiday throughout Spain.
Some stores might be closed, so good idea to double-check the opening hours before planning a shopping trip.

LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA
Town Hall: With the collaboration and production of the Instituto Canario de las Tradiciones and Los Gofiones, the Plaza de Santa Ana will host a grand All Souls’ Ball on the evening of October 31st. This will take place immediately after a theatrical reenactment transports the Alameda de Colón to the year 1851, when cholera took the lives of almost six thousand people in Gran Canaria, most of them in the capital.
at 21:00 at Alameda de Colón: “Ánimas, death without bells during the cholera of 1851”
A theatrical reenactment transports the Alameda de Colón to the year 1851, when cholera took the lives of almost six thousand people in Gran Canaria, most of them in the capital.
A historic moment will be revived in the Alameda de Colón by the Dragos y Laurel Association of Villa de Moya, which with its theatrical recreation “will take us back precisely to that night of October 31, 1851, to see the different aspects of both the lower and upper classes, but also of figures who have disappeared from our imagination today, such as the animeros,” said the coordinator of the Canary Islands Institute of Traditions.
A dramatization that will analyze how the outbreak of the epidemic affected the residents of Gran Canaria in 1851. A historical event whose context and consequences for island society at the time were already available in the exhibition held at the Castillo de Mata last June and July. A wealth of documents from the period, some never before exhibited, as well as pieces of high historical and artistic value, shed light on a tragic moment that profoundly marked the island’s inhabitants, especially those of its capital.
at 22:00 Concert by Los Gofiones at Plaza de Santa Ana
Los Gofiones liven up a night in which roasted chestnut and corn stalls multiply in the area

To this end, up to eight points will be set up, four of them in the Alameda de Colón and another four in the Plaza de Santa Ana.

For the brave, and also for the more curious, Guía will offer four themed stages that will test anyone’s nerves: “The Monsters’ Gambling Room,” where nothing is what it seems and the dice always fall on the dark side; “The Route Through the Underworld,” a tour for those unafraid to cross over; “The Hell of Strayed Souls,” where laughter mixes with screams; and the essential “Passage of Terror,” reserved only for the most daring.
Between scares, attendees can recharge their batteries with roasted chestnuts and hot chocolate, which will be served to those attending this festive evening.
During this fun-filled evening, the Plaza Grande will be filled with rhythm with performances by Armonía Show, DJ Aithamy, and the group Una Más until well into the early hours.
